I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and holiday weekend. Ours was very quiet, just the two of us. But it was a nice, relaxing, leisurely day. I did some sewing early and then we cooked a great dinner, watched some football and just enjoyed the day.
The picture above is the Family of Stars Quilt so far. An inner border has been added since I took that picture and one side of the outer border is done. It will be a few more days before the whole thing is complete but I am going to have to take it outside to do the photos. Its too big to fit on my design wall! The pattern will be available for the full quilt, including the sashings and borders in January. All of the blocks are available as single blocks. The blocks finish at 20" x 20". There will also be a variety of borders that will fit these individual blocks so you can mix and match if you want to make a table topper or wall hanging. Fabric kits are available for all of the blocks in the exact same fabrics as what you see in the picture. I am making this quilt again with the same exact colors except for the background – it will be a beige. As I make these new blocks, we will be filming the entire process so "sew-along" instructions will be available for each block and they will be free on our website. This project has been about two years in the making and I am very proud of how it turned out – very much like what I envisioned.
The block names from left to right starting at the top: Robert's Star, Nyla's Star and Donald's Star. Middle row: Laura's Star, Marvin's Star and Benjamin's Star. Bottom row: Ruby's Star, Dwen's Star and Everett's Star. If you know my family, you know who these stars are named for.
I have been having fun with Half Square Triangles! This quilt is made from one Layer Cake and 1-1/2 yards of fabric for sashings, border and binding. It finishes at 49" x 76" so makes a nice throw quilt. And FAST!!! Our foundations are made to fit the 10-inch squares. Put two squares with the right sides together, set the foundation on the back side of one square. Sew on the diagonal lines then cut on the broken lines. Just like that, you have 8 half square triangle blocks that do not need any trimming. They are ready to sew together. And, there are so many ways you can lay these blocks out. I grabbed a Layer Cake of pastel prints for a baby so I can make a baby quilt really quick. In that case, one layer cake and just enough fabric for binding.
We have lots of different size half square triangle block packages and patterns. We also have them to fit the different pre-cut sizes.
Its been crazy around here (isn't it always?) but we are getting ready for a couple of big shows to start the year off. We will be at Road to California and the following week we will be in Phoenix at the State Fairgrounds. We have oodles and oodles of new stuff - patterns, notions and fabric kits. We plan to have videos going all day long so visitors can actually see the process. We have expanded our collections to include projects that are done on our foundations but not necessarily as paper/foundation piecing. Just quick and accurate ways to make traditional patterns. If you are in the area, please check us out and if you come by our booth, let us know you get our blog.
