Quilt Show & More

We had a wonderful show at PIQF this past week.  I had two workshops; the first was on Wednesday afternoon for Basic Foundation Piecing.  I forgot to take pictures but one of my students brought her completed heart to show the next day.

Crazy Heart

The next day, I taught an Advanced Foundation Piecing class.  We worked on the Ruby's Star that measures 48" x 48" when finished.  Its perfect to use as the center of a medallion quilt if you want something bigger.  I intend to add blocks around my block but when I teach this class, I want to leave options.  It makes a beautiful table topper or small tablecloth, with a bit of a border it can be a beautiful wallhanging.  So, there are many different things they can do when they get their big block complete.  Everyone finished one complete section of the block and they learned the quick cutting method we like to use.  It makes cutting for a quilt so much faster and easier.

I need to learn to take better pictures!  But you get the idea.  They all did a great job and I think they had some fun too.  When I do these workshops, I stress the fun part.  I don't want anyone to take it too seriously and I think if we keep things light in class, they will remember the process much better when they get home.

I received a very nice note from a customer who had asked me to figure out the blocks for a bed-size Storm at Sea quilt.  This particular pattern is the Mid-size Storm at Sea Pattern and the Queen Re-fill added to it.

I LOVE IT!  I really like her choice of colors and the way she made the outer border with the same blocks, just color placement.  Penny Sleigh Doyle did a wonderful job on this quilt.  Can't wait to see it when its quilted.  Thanks so much for sharing.

We are wrapping up our July special tomorrow so if stripe blocks are something you want to try, you have one day.  Check it out on the website and remember to use the code SUMMERSTRIPES10 to receive your 10% discount at checkout.

For the month of August, the code is AUTUMNFEST10 to use at checkout.  We are featuring all of our patterns and blocks that relate to autumn.  So, the Autumn Splendor is a beautiful little table topper or wallhanging, perfect for the entire fall season.  We also have a Fall Banner that is a quick little quilt to make up.  The pattern contains three different blocks and there are two of each.  I have made all our banner patterns to hang in my kitchen for the appropriate season and I use the extra three blocks to make matching potholders.  I will share mine during the month to give you some ideas.

Autumn Splendor 32" x 32"

The Autumn Splendor pattern is sort of a sampler quilt in that there are several completely different blocks in it.  Again, in keeping with our "Year of the Scraps," this is a great quilt to make from your stash.

We are spending the week getting ready for our next show at CalExpo in Sacramento.  Our booth is "DD, E, F & G"  I am hoping to have a few little extra things to show and will be doing demos all day, everyday, except when I am at my Free Seminar.  We are doing a new block this year so be sure to catch it if you can.  My seminars are usually at 1:00 pm each day of the show but I haven't confirmed that yet.  If it is different, I will make sure to correct it in a blog on Tuesday night next week.

Until then, HAPPY QUILTING!
